About the Department

The Department of Physics was established in 2012 with the mission of imparting quality education in the field of Physics at the undergraduate level. In 2020, the department expanded its academic offerings by introducing the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program, enabling scholars to pursue advanced research in Physics.

The department is well equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, including the Optics Laboratory, Applied Physics Laboratory, Nanomaterials and the Materials Research Laboratory, providing students and researchers with hands-on learning and experimentation facilities.

Currently, the department is supported by a strong team comprising 17 faculty members, 3 teaching assistant, and 4 laboratory assistants. At present, 27 research scholars are actively pursuing their Ph.D. degrees in diverse areas of Physics. The department’s R&D activities have gained significant momentum through funding from prestigious agencies such as DST, SERB, UGC, DAE, and CSIR. The department takes pride in its highly qualified and dedicated faculty, many of whom have earned their degrees from reputed institutions such as IITs, Central Universities, and other leading universities. The faculty is committed to providing quality education, fostering innovation, and working towards the holistic development of students.

With a modern curriculum aligned to Outcome-Based Education (OBE), the department ensures an enriching learning experience for students, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to achieve their aspirations and build successful careers.

1. To educate and train students on fundamentals of Physics for applications of Science and Engineering
2. To perform world class research in frontier fields of Applied Physics.

Highlights of the Department

INSPIRE Science Camp has been organized from 18 to 23 March 2019 and this program is funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), India. Several eminent academicians and research scientists from various reputed institutions delivered lectures to the undergraduate students. This program is focused on creating awareness and interest in science and technology in UG students and nearly 200 students participated in the program.
The department received research grants and conference grants from various funding agencies like UGC, UGC-DAE, DST and state council. The total funding including research and conference in total received so far is around 15.55 Lakhs. Apart from external funding, the SEED money funding had also been sanctioned by Anurag University to promote active research activities within the department. The total amount of SEED money projects received is 8.8 Lakhs.
The department encourages quality research. The faculty members have published 76 research publications so far in several international, and national journals and the three patents were granted by international patent authorities for their innovation in research.
The department organized a national conference and an international conference in December 2022. These conferences aim to promote scientific collaboration with other academic/research institutions.
The National Conference on Science and Engineering of Advanced Materials (NCSEAM-2022) was organized from 19-20 Dec 2022. Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) sanctioned Rs 80,000 for organizing this event. The number of participants who attended this event was around 100. The number of abstracts accepted was thirty-eight and the list of invited talks was eighteen.
The International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Material Science and Engineering (INCAIMSE-2022) was organized in association with the Department of Artificial Intelligence (AI) from 21st -22nd Dec 2022. This conference is completely an online program. Several industry and academic researchers delivered online invited talks through the Zoom platform. The number of participants who attended this event was 285.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physics was started in the year 2020 to pursue a Ph.D. degree. The total number of research supervisors is 6 and 10 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D. degree under their supervision. The department is equipped with Nanomaterials Crystal Growth Lab and Material Research Lab.

Dr.-M.-SRINIVASA-REDDY

HOD – Dept of Physics, AU

Srinivasa Reddy Mainampati received a Master of Science (Physics) from Osmania University, Hyderabad in 2000, M.Phil (Physics) from Hyderabad Central University in 2002, and a Ph.D in Physics from Osmania University, Hyderabad in 2015. M S Reddy’s professional carrier has started with appointment as an Assistant Professor at Guru Nanak Engineering College in 2002. He moved to the Sphoorthy Engineering College in 2004. From 2004 to 2012, he served as Controller of Examinations and Head Department of Humanities and Sciences. In 2012, he joined the Department of H&S at Anurag Group of Institutions as an Assistant Professor and promoted as an Associate Professor in 2015. In 2021 Dr. M S Reddy promoted as a Professor. From 2015, Dr. M S Reddy has been succeeding as Head & Chairperson BoS Department of Physics. He honored with “Dr.T.S Narasimha Murthy and Dr.P.G Puranik Memorial Gold Medal (s)” for securing highest marks in M.Sc Physics from Nizam College, Osmania University in 2000. M S Reddy was recipient of two times “Best Teacher Award” in 2008 from Sphoorthy Engineering College & in 2022 from Anurag University. He has published more than 20 articles in reputed Journals and received two grants from UGC. He is a life member of Indian Science Congress.

Prof. M. Mutha Reddy

Dean – Examinations, AU

Dr. M. Mutha Reddy was graduated M.Sc Degree in Physics (Solid State Physics) from Osmania University, Hyderabad in 1974, and obtained Ph.D in Solid State Physics from Osmania University in 1984. He has an extensive teaching experience of 35 years (20 years of UG and 15 years of PG), designated different positions right from the Associate Lecturer to till Professor in Osmania University. He published 5 research papers in the area of Physics, Contributed to 2 books and contributed a Laboratory Manual for Physics Practicals. He rendered his great services as a Registrar of the Centurion Osmania University, Hyderabad from 2002 to 2010. Being a Registrar he contributed to the Policy making, Infrastructural Development, Promotion of Excellence, Resource Mobilization, Institutional Networking, and Streamlining University Governance, Standardization of Procedures, Employee Welfare and Staff Development of the University. In his career he served as a member Governing body of 20 affiliated colleges, member selection committee of 20 colleges, member Board of Studies for Physics, member Departmental Committee (Physics Department) and as a Resource person for Training programs of Academic Staff College, Osmania University. He worked as Principal in Anurag group of institutions from 2010 to 2015 and he is serving as a Dean Examinations and Student Affairs from 2015 till date.

Dr. M. Venkata Ramana

Professor & Director IQAC

Dr. M. Venkata Ramana has obtained M.Sc in Physics (Spectroscopy) from Osmania University, Hyderabad in 1984, and obtained Ph.D in Physics from Osmania University in 1990. He has an extensive teaching experience of 32 years (22 years of UG and 14 years of PG), He worked as Lecturer, Assoc. Professor and Principal of Government Autonomous College in the cadre of Professor in Government of Telangana. He has published 42 research papers in the area of Material Science and Physics, authored 18 books and contributed as a resource person for conducting Refresher courses in experimental Physics by Three Indian Science Academies. He has to his credit the working experience at International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Italy. He served as a member Governing body of Three Undergraduate colleges and a Post-graduate college. As an academic audit team member he visited more than 50 undergraduate and post-graduate colleges across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. He was presently serving as editorial member of 8 international and 3 National Journals. He is Life member of 6 National academic bodies and Fellow member of 4 national academic bodies. He is on Advisory board of Three Quality assessment and accredition bodies and presently working as NAAC assessor. Presently he is serving AU as Director, IQAC from 2021 till date.
